Called Reliable Plumbing or DK Works - Maple Ridge/ Pitt Meadows for a simple job- install some new shower fixtures into an existing tub surround. We supplied the fixtures- brand new- nothing out of the ordinary.
I explained I wanted the tub nozzle to be placed 5" below the taps. Contractor did not follow my instructions and installed nozzle too high, then says 'I'll have to put the valve handle upside down now because it will hit the nozzle". Yep, thats why I told him 5" in the first place. Did not notice it until in the shower later- the tub nozzle is also completely off-center below the taps! - its offset at least 3/4" from center. Does not appear any effort was taken to measure & center it below the taps as it should be done. Now we have a damaged tub wall & a hole I will have to try & patch. I look from the side and I can see daylight between the tub nozzle and the tub wall. This part of the job can be considered a complete failure and amateur at best.
The existing holes through the tub wall needed to be slightly enlarged. The contractor had a hole saw chucked into his drill. Lucky I was there to stop him-most contractors know you cant use a hole saw in an existing hole. It would have likely skated away and put blade marks into the plastic tub surround. I provided him with my own dremel tool to widen the holes safely without damaging the tub surround.
Then, I'm told that some shims are needed to hold the valve assembly in place. It becomes clear pretty quick he is not prepared to provide this, so I have to go out to my shop & make & fit the shims for him. He says some strapping should be placed across the shims, but does not provide them or install any.
During assembly he picks up some plastic parts & asks me 'what are these for'? I had already stated the instructions for the kit were right there, but never does not look at them. I explain what the pieces are for- he installs a couple of them & then leaves a couple off.
I asked for the cover plate and the lead pipe to the shower head to be replaced. He does not bother. Finally in frustration I figure cut my losses and I will replace the shower nozzle myself or get someone else to do it.
5 years in my house I have done all renos on my own- first time I call a contractor this is what I get. Pretty frustrating- oh & did I mention, I got all this for the bargain price of over $400 in labour!!! Not once did he think to mention how much it might be or provide any estimate. I certainly wasnt given any price reduction for holding pipes for him, making shims, providing tools and direction he seemed to need etc.
Reccommend you avoid this plumbing contractor.
