Capitol Motor Sales
Dishonest, Frauds, Fraudulent Charges, Theives

*NOTE* This is a little long, but you will not believe the garbage i went through with these lying, thieving, scam artists!

Attempted to purchase a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire from this dealer. When the car had first arrived on the lot there were numerous problems with the vehicle, but it was in pretty decent shape and had lower kilometres on it. The dealer said that they would fix all the problems before they would sell the car.

Content with this response, I indicated that i would like to purchase the vehicle when all the problems were fixed and that i had a 1999 Dodge Caravan with a damaged Transmission that i wanted to trade towards the purchase.
They agreed to take the van for $500.00 off the purchase price, and said that the car would be $660.00 Down and $230.00 a month for 15 months (Total $3610.00). They would also have the van towed to the car lot from the garage that it was at. The tow cost was $71.10.
They had indicated that it would take about a week until the car was ready.

I had been all over the city looking for a vehicle and for the price, this.. i thought, was a good buy.

I called a week later and was told that it was not ready, and that it would be another week until it was ready. I called the next week and was told it was still not ready. I informed the woman there that i was heading on vacation for a week and that when i got back i would really like to have the car. She said it would be ready.

When i got back a week later i went to the lot. I saw my van parked beside the building (IMPORTANT NOTE: It looked just as it was when it was at the garage), i looked inside, and noticed that i had left some personal belongings in it (jumper cables, kids' clothing, kids' toys etc.) I collected them, and went to speak to the woman there and was told that the car still was not ready (this is now 3 weeks). I expressed my disappointment with the woman, who assured me that i'd have the car, for sure, in a few days.

Sure enough they called a few days later and told me the car was ready. I headed to the lot with my boyfriend and asked to take the car for a test drive. We did not even get out of the lot and there was a knocking in the front end of the vehicle and lights were coming on, on the dash. I informed the woman of this and she didn't seem too surprised, and it almost seemed like there was something she wasn't saying about the vehicle.

She said that if we wanted, we could take the vehicle to their mechanic a few blocks away and that i could get him to check it out myself. I thought this was odd, that she was suggesting that I take the vehicle myself but I also figured that i hadn't come this far and waited this long just to walk away, so i took it there.

The mechanic said that there was an issue with the bushings in the front end and that as far as the wiring goes the dealership used another guy. He called the woman and she said to go ahead and fix the problem and he told me that it would be ready on Wednesday (It was Friday). I said ok, and went back to the dealership.

When i got to the dealership, frustrated, but desperate at this point because i hadn't had a vehicle in about 4 weeks. I told the woman (after almost arguing with her about it) that i could deal with the dash lights, and as long as the mechanic fixed the other problems by the time he said he would.. I'd still be interested in taking the car.

When i got home i began having some second thoughts. The woman didn't seem to want to offer up too much info on the vehicle, and wasn't too interested in putting anymore time into it. She seemed to be all-around dishonest about what was happening with the car.

Wednesday came around and i hadn't heard from the dealership about the car. I decided that this was enough. I called the woman and informed her that i did not wish to purchase the car anymore. She didn't seem too disappointed, and asked when i could pick up my van and informed me that i'd have to pay the towing fee ($71.10) on the van. I told her that i had to work the next day (Thursday), and that i would be there on the Friday with a tow truck, i told her I would pay the towing fee.

Friday came. My friend and i went with a tow truck to get the van and when i arrived i noticed that the van had no hub caps on it. When i got closer i noticed that the hub caps weren't the only thing missing. The CD Player i had in the van had been removed and it looked as though someone had been pulling at the interior side panel at the rear of the van to get at the vehicle jack! They had also blocked the van in it's spot with another vehicle.

Furious, i went into the office and asked the woman what had happened to the van, to which she replied, that they were not responsible for the van while it was on their lot, and that i would have to pay the towing fee before i left.

I was NOT willing to let this go. I had been screwed around enough. I persisted with what had happened and the woman snapped back saying now, that on top of paying the towing fee of $71.10 I also owed her $2000.00 for 4 weeks of storing my van!!!

This was OUTRAGEOUS!!! She had offered to tow the van to the lot and at no time was there EVER a discussion of storage fees! I could have parked the van at my own home had i been aware of these charges. On top of that! The van would have never been on the lot for 4 weeks had they gotten the sunfire fixed instead of stretching the repairs out that long.

I refused to pay $2000.00. I told her that i would pay the towing fee ($71.10) but she would not see another penny. She replied by saying that if i did not pay her, i would not be getting my van back, and that if i tried she'd call the police I told her to go ahead!
she stormed back into her office and tossed some papers around on her desk, then came back out, got in her van and LEFT!

I called the police.

They informed me that it was not a police matter, but i think maybe it was the tone in my voice at this point that swayed their decision to send a cruiser my way.
When the officer arrived I expained the situation and was told that unless i could prove that they took the items out of and off of my van there was nothing he could do. That aside, he said he'd speak to the woman.

When he came back, he said that the woman told him that she never said anything about paying her $2000.00... (what follows is completely insane.) but that she was willing to take $200.00
I said no. Towing fee and that's it. He went back in the office and came back with an offer of $50.00.. INSANE! I was not paying it. This went back and forth.. $40, $35, $30... I was done. I was tired. FINE. I'll pay the 30 bucks. I just wanted out of there. I paid. I got my van. I left.

I DO NOT recommend that anyone deal with this SO-CALLED dealership. They are very sneaky in their dealings and there is questionable workmanship going into their vehicle repairs.
If you do choose to ignore my suggestion. PLEASE!!! be very cautious when dealing with these people, get things in writing, ask questions!! BE CAREFUL! and good luck!
