I'm the accountant of a company who found out someone is mailing out checks resembling our company checks with a scam letter from RBC Financial stating you've won the lottery but basically owe GST (canadian taxes), so you have to cash the check, mail back $$ for the taxes and then they will send you a check for the remaining balance. Its all a scam. The $$ amount in the letter doesnt even match the $$ amount of the check nor do any of the other amounts in the letter add up to much of anything. PLEASE if you get one of these letters/checks contact the company on the check - so they can be aware of the situation.
We got lucky & a very nice lady called to let us know these checks were out there so we could get on top of this issue right away
