Market Survey Sweepstakes Lottery Winne

I received a letter in the mail from a company called H.C.& F. Holdings Incorporated stating that I was the winner of a Market Survey Sweepstakes Lottery. Along with the letter I received a check for $4, 756.60 to pay the Canadian Non-Resident Government Services Tax. For payment of this tax I was instructed to contact the agent whos name appeared on the bottom of the letter.

I Sent off an e-mail to the bank on which this check was to be drawn. The bank sent a reply back telling me there was not an account holder by that name and not to cash the check.

When I did a search on the phone number it appeared to be a cell phone. I tried to do a search on the name and address but came up with nothing.

This is just one of several types of scams that I have seen recently. When I receive something that doesn't seem right I research the address, phone number and go to the BBB website to see if there is anything there on the company.
