My husband received a notice and check in the amount of $4, 756.60 today. The check looks and feels legitimate. The letter appears to be legitimate also.
The hard part was trying to figure out how we won the stated $125, 000 that this check was a partial payment to. The letter stated that we won according to the Market Survey Sweepstakes Lottery as a result of a program held on April 8th 2009. It said that his name attached to a ticket number with a serial number and drew the lucky number. Wow! How can all of those match when I don't have some kind of receipt that shows that I even had those numbers?
This check was supposed to be for payment of the "Canadian Non-Resident Government Services Tax (GST)". I don't know about Canada but I would think that they aren't going to give you cash just because they live there.
If you get a check like this, don't cash it. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The check won't be honored at the bank.
