BMX Bicycle
Bad Customer Service

I went to my local Canadian Tire to purchase a bike for my 10 year old son for Christmas. They did not have a BMX bike out on the floor so we left and went to another location. At that location they also did not have a BMX bike so we asked customer service if they could check to see which, if any store, had a bike in stock. He grudgingly after much prodding did so. He told us the Aylmer store had one (the first store we had been at). I asked if he could call to confirm as we had just been there and there wasn't one in the store. Again after prodding he did so and told us that it was in their container outside but they did have one. We then went back - explained to customer service what we had been told. They didn't have a key to the container but the manager would be in the next day to open the container. They told us however that we could still purchase it and pick it up the next day. We agreed to do so as we had been looking for a bike for a few weeks. We bought the bike and receipt in hand left for home. I work near the Canadian Tire and informed them I would be in the next day around noon to pick up the bike. We had been home for about 2 hours when I received a call that said they had found the key to the container and I could pick up the bike that day if I'd like. I told them I would pick it up the next day as planned as we had people over. That was fine. The next morning approximately at 10 am I received a phone call from Canadian Tire informing me that after they had taken the bike out of storage they had "accidentally" sold it to another customer! REALLY! I was not impressed. I then asked if they could check to see if there was another bike in another store that they could get for me and have it shipped to Aylmer. "Sorry we don't do that". I informed them it was their mistake and their attitude was "oh, well, tough luck". They refused to do anything except I could get my refund which I promptly did. I got another bike at a sports shop and paid $100 more but frankly I didn't care at that point. Three days later I got a call from Canadian Tire that they actually hadn't sold it, it was a mistake, I could still come and get it. My reply "No thanks, I've already purchased another bike" I'd rather pay more and get good customer service than have to deal with them again. The customer service guy that called had a response "oh really? crap" Crap is right!
