Today I received a check in the mail in the amount of $4, 670.00. The letter that accompanies this check states that I have won a Compensation Lottery Draw for all the leading stores in Canada and the U.S.
The name of the person i was to contact is: Phillip Jackson at 1-778-881-0468. Which is in Canada. Soooo we decide to give this guy a call. My husband and I knew it was a scam but I really wanted to know what this guy was going to tell me.
He wanted us to deposit the check in the bank and call him immediately afterward. After asking him if this would be detrimental to our account he replies back with, "Well I cannot really say if it will or not, what would you like me to say."
I looked up the company that listed on the check, called them and viola it is a scam. However they were most appreciative of the fact that we took the time to call them. We even faxed them over copies of the letter and the fraudulent check hoping that it would help them catch at least one of the criminals that seem to be getting away with this on a daily basis.
The moral of the story people. If you win something you do NOT have to send ANY company money to receive your winnings. As for taxes you would pay those out of the winnings themselves not to an "agent".
Don't be fooled, if it sounds too good to be true it usually is.
