On 1/25/10 I contacted a local repo guy to do a repo for us in Raleigh North Carolina. He said he knew a guy in NC that could help us named Adam. He contacted his friend in NC about the repo and called me back. Adam told him that the repo fee would be $500. A "Authorization to Repossess & Hold Harmless" agreement was faxed over to me to return to "Speedy Repo". I signed the agreement and returned it. Don Hall then contacted me and said that he would be in charge of repossessing the truck and the repossession fee would be around $500. He asked me to send him the information on the truck & the tracking information, which I did. The following morning I was elated to get a call from Don that he had repoed the truck and it was in their "secure location" in Virginia Beach, VA. He got my fax # and said the corporate office would be faxing over a bill. That's when the trouble started... The bill was for $2875, not $500. The repo fee was $550; however, they charged a "skip tracing" fee of $2175.
When I called Don about the "mix-up" he informed me that it was spelled out in the contract I signed. Sure enough, when I looked over the "hold harmless and authorization to reposs" form it said they would charge a skip tracing fee. I explained to him that a representative from his company told our repo guy that the fee would be $500... all Don would do is direct me to the contract. I then called the "corporate office". They were no help. I was hollered at, hung up on and they refused to let me speak to Adam, who set the whole thing up in the first place. On 1/28/10 I talked with a Doug Walters, who was very belligerent, hung up on me 3 times and pretty much told me that my truck would be held hostage until I paid the fees and the longer I waited the higher my bill would get. At that point I saw there was NO reasoning with these people. They have it down to a science... After being on the phone for 3 days I was finally able to "work a deal" (yeah, right) for $2500 and free storage for 10 days. I am in the process of calling the Attorney Generals office in the State of Virginia and reporting them. I am also trying to join the Class Action Suit that Ryan is trying to get up (see his story on this website too). I don't see how these people sleep at night. I guess some people have no conscience.
