I am a police officer in GA and just took a report for a woman who almost fell victim to this scam. As others have written, the check and form letter look VERY offical. This woman was smart enough to do a little homework and called the listed phone number first. They told her to cash the check then recontact once she had the funds. She still thought something didn't seem right because she hadn't entered any sweepstakes. She went to her bank and verified the check was fake and they instructed her to notify police.
A bit of advice for anyone out there who receive these types of things in the mail or e-mail... DON'T ever give out personal information to third parties that contact you in this manner and certainally don't send them ANY MONEY!
