North American Prize Pool
Trying to scam people out of hard-earned money

I received a letter in the mail today telling me that I had won $100, 000 USD. With this letter was a check. The check is from a legitimate Management company with a signed signature. I called the number on the letter and was told that since I called today the security code attatched to the check will be removed toight and to go ahead and deposit the check into my bank account tomorrow. I asked if we could go to the local bank that the check is drawn on and convert the check to a bank check to deposit into our account and she said "no, you have to deposit it" Hmmm. red flag. I called back to see what the $4000. insurance fee was for and I was told that it is all detailed in the letter and that they pay only our taxes. Hmmm red flag again, how can you pay taxes on something when you don't have my social security number? I called the bank the check is drawn on, verified it is a legitimate account, but they could not verify funds, it would be up to the branch if they would pay on it. I also researched the company that the check is from and called the number to see if I could use a company directory to find the person who signed the check since it is now 2:00am and would not actually get to a person. When I put in the last name, it went to a voice mail of a department. I am going to call them during business hours to see if such a person exists. I am also going to make several copies of both the letter and the check for my records. I am then going to go to the bank and speak with them. Hopefully, by my doing this, it will let both the company the check is from and the bank it is drawn on know what is happening if they don't already know. I will then let you all know what happened as a result of my efforts. I hope that this will help put a stop to these people preying on unsuspecting, hard working people like us. I also feel that there should be a way to sue these people, not that we would receive a cash settlement, but to make them at least accountable for their actions.
