Fails to deliver a working website!

In June 2005, I searched the net for a web site design and development company to develop a property marketing web site. I came across Momentum Information Technology and sent them an email. received a call from the owner, Mr Satinder Singh, re my request to develop a property website. After getting a number of quotes from other website development companies, I chose Momentum Infotech as Mr Singh seemed to offer the best service at a realistic price. I sent Mr Singh a requirement specification document of 135 pages detailing what each page should contain. Below is the email I received back from Satinder Singh re my quote request:

Momentum Information Technologies Pvt. Ltd. We confirm the pricing for the development of the website for EURO 3500. This include the basic graphic design of the website and delivery will be done within 10 weeks from the date of actual production start. The delivery period may have variation of 10 days ( /-). We will give you detailed delivery schedules once we complete the initial screens/functional design for you.

For the logo design, home page design and inner page design you can provide us your thoughts in a document as discussed.

Thanks for your kind quote request. We just completed the general overview of the nicely explain document from you and the conclusion is that we can do this website for EURO 3050 and delivery within 8-9 weeks from the date of order placement. Technology wise you have not given any preference about what to use for development e.g.ASP.NET (C-Sharp) with MS SQL Server 2000 Database, PHP MySQL or Cold Fusion with any other Database.

We can code in all three technologies mentioned above, at the same time we will suggest you to go for ASP.NET as it is more scalable, free of cost and matches best with MSSQL Server Database.

The payment terms will be 25% upfront, 25% and 25% on completion of milestone 1 and milestone 2 (we can mutually discuss and decide on a milestone) and Balance 25% on launch of the website. You can pay us by Bank Transfer or credit card (4% extra charges apply). In the past we have done the following websites related to property/real estate in Europe:

Before I transferred the first payment, Mr Singh said that he had quoted wrongly and needed another Eur150. Based on his explanation, I agreed and I transferred the first payment and Mr Singh began the development. But very shortly afterwards, Mr Singh informed me that his page designer was out sick and that anyway the price didn't include page header design, flash, etc. After a long discussion, Mr Singh agreed to do the page design but eventually after weeks of poor attempts at designing the front page, I had to employ a spanish company to take over the design. Eventually Momentum Infotech prepared the first draft of the website but it was of poor design quality. Weeks and months past with updated versions but all were full of programming errors. Mr Singh expected me to fully test the website each time and revert back with a list of errors. In order to get the website finished I would test the site and email back the errors. On numerous occassions, there were so many errors that it made it impossible to test the site. I would await feedback and then Satinder would communicate looking for more money to finish the site. This went on and on. There was added confusion as members of the the development team seemed to be leaving the company on a regular and the knowledge base seemed to appear and disappear. This had a serious impact on the development as Momentum never went to the trouble of properly planning out the website with process maps, test protocols, etc. I eventually got so fed up with Momentum that I asked Satinder to either send me all the website files which had been created to date and I would get someone else to complete the site or I would give him 20% of the profit of the website after the first year if the company finished the development, fixed all the errors and maintained the website for the year.

Two years later, I have a malfunctioning website, unworkable development files and have no earnings from the site.

My advise is to avoid Momentum Infotech at all costs.

Michael Shaughnessy.
