Exactly three years ago, I bought a KitchenAid counter Microwave for 475$. In the second year, I started to have few issues with the internal fuse. Then, in the third year, it stopped to heat. I called KitchenAid for technical support and they told me it is not possible. Because they have only three spare parts available: the Turn Table Glass, the Support for it, and the Drive to turn it. That’s it… I complaint verbally for this lack of reliability and support for an expensive, complex, and relatively recent appliance, and they offer me (only) 15% reduction if I buy a new one from their group: KitchenAid, Jenn-Air (both high end) or Whirlpool.
Worst, all new counter microwave model have no more spare parts than mine. If it fails in the first year of warranty, they just replace the unit.
Three years ago, I have changed an older KitchenAid model for that new one that fit in my niche and wall-plate: why, because the Drive for the turning table stopped to run… So, at the same time I called them for the second broken machine, I asked for a spare Drive for this original unit: model too old and no spare available.
Now, I am facing to buy a third model to fit in my wall-plate for only 15% discount when it would last only three years or less, with no possibility for repair and scrapped them in the Nature. Not quite good for the environment and my bank account. Maybe good for the owners of KitchenAid that like to sell more units…
KitchenAid likes to say, “ We care about your experience ”. Not sure about them… However, my own experience is an expensive one to discover the lack of quality and technical support from this group and their products. And the impact on environment with too much obsolescent appliances that are going somewhere to waste. However, I have learnt something useful from my experience for the rest of my life : “ Never buy from KitchenAid, Jenn-Air or Whirlpool ”.
