Seaway Pools & Beachcomber Hot Tubs
Poor workmanship and customer service by Gary and Craig Walters at Seaway Pools

I paid Seaway Pools in Markham over $10, 000 to renovate my pool. The workmanship was poor and the customer service after I complained was even worse.
To hilight some of the key areas of concern :

a) they installed new plumbing and skimmer and when they poured the concrete, they cemented my skimmer lid shut. when i complained they told me this wasn't a problem. the skimmer face also wasn't flush with the pool wall. Instead it was sunken behind the pool wall. It would never seal. again I was told this wasn't a problem. I had a second and third opinion done and they said I had a HUGE problem. eventually the owner agreed to have it fixed. But not until after he demanded the next payment of over $5, 000 to complete the work (raising his voice at me in my own kitchen).

b) I paid over $2, 000 to have a 2 ft concrete subdeck poured. Not only was it not 2 ft wide, it was not reinforced with anything. And they didn't use any forms to pour it. Originally I was told it would have wire mesh in it. When I noticed no wire, Craig Walters told me that there was fiberglas mesh it it. Needless to say after we sawed out the skimmer basket to fix it we noticed there was no fiberlgass in it either. Since no forms were used my landscapers had to saw the edges straight. Of course they charged me more for that.

c) after I complained about the work and insisted on a new crew to complete it, basically all comminication from Gary and Craig stopped. If I called or emailed them they would not respond. Instead they would have a pool technician call. I finally heard from Craig today since he wanted the final payment.

d) after they were done the renovation they were supposed to show us how to operate the pool and equipment. It's been a week and they havne't come. If we didn't have friends and the internet to learn about it ourselves, I'm sure our pool would be green by now.

e) when they originally came to do the work I asked them to let me know when they would be onsite so I could show them where the pool equpiment needed to be placed. I didn't get a call. They proceeded to put it in the wrong spot. I had to ask them to move it since it didn't meed local code for gas and electrical (yes, I looked up the code myself).

So unless you're prepared to be an onsite project manager (I took many days off work to monitor the progrees) and be familiar with local electrical and gas codes, I would strongly advise against this company.
