Keeping my account open for 60 days after I asked them to close it

I received a bill with an over the limit fee of $29. I paid off the balance in full and after the payment went through I called to cancel my card.

A month later I get a letter stating that my account will stay open for 2 consecutive months before it closes and if there are any other charges on the account, (the account that I specifically asked to be closed a month earlier) the account will remain open and membership fees will continue.
