Dear Sirs
From December 20 to December 27 2004 my wife and I were looking forward to an all inclusive tour package to Costa Rica offered by Sunquest. Having scoured your booklet advertising these tours, we chose to stay at Hotel grand Papagayo in Guanacaste. It is advertised as a 4 star facility. We can assure you as seasoned travelers that that is not the case. This hotel would not rate a 2 star at this time.
The flight to Costa Rica was pleasant and uneventful.
Arriving at the hotel, we found that5 we had to take a shuttle bus to our room since the distance and way was multiple steep hills and long. We are 66 years old.
Room 1513 did not have any hot water, the air conditioning leaked, the shower and bath did not work properly and there was not ant any lock on the veranda screen door. Needless to say, our safe did not work either.
We requested a room change and were told that that was impossible, that everything would be fixed in good time
We tried very hard to cope with the terrible disappointment of not having an anniversary work out the way it looked on paper.
To add to our woes, clean towels were only given upon request!!! One would think that towels upon the bathroom floor indicated that they were to be swapped for clean ones.
Others that had arrived the same day as we were being offered new rooms closer and more convenient and running water!! WOW!
We tried to find little items from a gift shop. Things that would normally be available in any hotel such as postage stamps, hand cream, toiletries. Our nearest store was a US$30.00 taxi ride away.
We looked for entertainment. NOTHING! For something to do evenings there was one computer for the entire hotel guest list or drink in the bar. For the young crowd there was a disco and a pool table. We don't drink.
It is advertised that there was to be an exercise room or spa and a beauty salon. They did not exist! When we mentioned this fact to Erikka, your representative, we were told to go to another hotel for exercise. REALLY!!
After numerous complaints we decided to leave. WE couldn't. The next flight out of there was our scheduled flight 3 days hence.
TRAPPED!
All-in-all it was one big fiasco. Needless to say, the intent of the fabulous vacation was taken right out of my hands.
So! I'll settle for nothing less than financial compensation. I want my money back. Please refer to page 260 of your winter sun brochure.
