Having just moved into my new home I was surprised when, on the second evening of occupancy, all power in the house was lost. Having only my cell phone working I looked up an electrician as close to the house as possible. Sadly, it was Ivan's Electric, who agreed to come out at 7 p.m. to have a look at the problem
After a half hour examination he called me down to advise that the bill to this point would be $360 for the after hours call and $360 to troubleshoot the problem. This was BEFORE anything was fixed. It was Ivan himself who insisted that this was company policy. I went ballistic!
As he could see how upset I was and incredulous at his ridiculously high charge, he agreed to fix the loose fuses that he said were arcing and burning as they were not tight enough, by inserting something to tighten them up. He would give me a break and ONLY charge me $300. more and not his usual $1, 000. As he did not have the equipment in the truck he brought he made a trip back to the shop. Total time in the house, about 2 hours. Final bill: $1020 plus HST.
I lost power to half of the house the next day and called a relative from out of town who is a licensed and working electrician. He told me that not only did I pay about 4 times what the job was worth, Ivan had missed one fuse and another one was still not tight enough. I need to upgrade my service to breakers and the amperage to 200 to truly repair the problems. It certainly will NOT be Ivan's Electric Ltd. doing the work. Ivan ripped me off BIG TIME!
