I signed up with cardex 5 years ago with promises of a lower percentage per transaction, I was also told that "Smart Card" was coming and I would have to change my terminal anyways in a couple of years, and the draw was that I would own my own machine in 4 years, I was happy with my current provider, but their sales people talked me into paying a lower rate, saying I was paying way too much! So I made my first mistake by signing with them. The sales people showed me the percentage which I would be paying, but neglected to show me a area on the contract that says I have to pay 199.00 a year for CMRA Cardex Retail Merchants Association. Which when you read the fine print, gives you nothing at all, when I recieved my first bill I called Cardex and complained about the charge, as was told at that time I signed the contract so too bad so sad... there was no talk that I could " opt out" of it if I gave 120 days notice. So I reluctantly paid it for 3 years, not happy about it each year, there was no benefits to my business what so ever. Then around Christmas time of 2004 I had tons of problems with their lines being down etc... the response I got was unproffessional, complaints of not enough staff, I was losing sales because of them. I am a small business and cannot afford to lose sales, as we are 95% dependant on debit credit.

Just last year I called again, and asked again what is the 199.00 fee for, Oh! Says the sweet girl, you can opt out of that fee if you give 120 days notice, another hoop cardex has in their contract, so I said I would like to opt out of the past three years! Oh, sorry no can do! Why was I not told that when I complained at the start! Again Cardex being sneaky!

Just recently I wanted to change banks, Monaris is my credit card provider, there is no charge, but of course cardex 75.00 charge to change banks, ridiculous! So I asked when my contract ended and that I would hit the ground running at that time she did not tell me that I needed to do written notice for 6 mnths for the end of my contract, at that time I did say that I would like to end my contract with Cardex, so she told me that someone would call me. So 2 days later someone did call me " Colin" for customer relations (I think he does it all there, he was posing as the owner once) he did not want me to end the contract and wanted to know what he could do to make me happy, I said give me the 800.00 back you took from me for the past 4 years, oh sorry we can not do that, then he proceeded to look up my contract and said oh sorry but you should ve notified us 2 weeks ago, sorry but you are renewed for another 5 years... I was sooo upset, I had to get off the phone, he told me to calm down and he would talk to his supervisor, he called me 3 days later to tell me that, sorry you are signed up and there is nothing they can do... read your contract... we will let you out for $400 nice!

I am here to warn all small buisness to not sign with this company they prey on people that do not read the " small print" and run a very unethical company Please be aware
