Continually disconnected service, and broke verbal contracts. Rip-off!

I am 22 years old, and I'm just starting out with my own business. Expenses sometimes have to be put off or comprimised at slow times, but i've never not payed a bill. I had my service disconnected around Feb 10, 2004, and immediatly contacted Telus to find out what the problem was. They told me that my account was overdue, and we came to an agreement that if i was to pay $430 immediately, that my service would be reconnected. I immediatly paid the full amount on-line, and recieved service. My service was once again disconnected on Feb 29, 2004. Did I mention that they told me the first time I was supposed to have recieved a text message warning me about the disconnection, which i did not receive?

Anyway i called them once again, and the reason for my loss of service was that i did not make a payment on March 5, 2004 which i was not billed for or informed of. Did I mention that my service was disconnected on Feb 29, and the bill was due on March 5? How is that fair? The worst thing is, that because i signed a 3 year contract (which i should have brought a lawyer to explain) I now have to either pay them $1200.00 to cancel my contract or play their game and jump through the hoops of their unfair contract!

By the way... when i asked the phone support person over the phone, she actually used the fact that the verbal contract we made over the phone was not valid (About reconnection on Feb 10.)I think this is unfair, and if their sales staff were not so pushy when having people sign contracts, we would actually read them and at least know the terms before we signed them. I'll have to go back to school and learn more about reading legal documents before i use my signature again, Who would have thought a scrible on a piece of paper could cost so much money?
