Eagle Ridge Pontiac Buick GMC
Lies, deceit, won't keep promises, no after-sales service

Stay away from Eagle Ridge Pontiac Buick GM. Dishonest, no service, crooks, in my opinion.

My wife and I bought a GMC Safari, used, with an extended warranty. Before we bought, we'd asked lots of questions about safety and about the condition of the vehicle, and we were told that all their vehicles go through the 80-point safety check, or maybe it was 150-point, or whatever, and that "these vehicles are certified safe. If anything needed fixing, it's been fixed before it made it to the car lot."

We wanted door lock remotes, and the salesman said the two remotes for the Safari had been lost, but that he'd order two new ones and charge us for them. I was willing to pay, so I agreed.

When we took possession of the van, I noticed that the tires were different, and that the tires they'd put on the van were actually past the wear guages, and three out of the four were completely bald on the edges. In other words, it was unsafe and illegal to drive on them.
I contacted the salesman (Hoki), and he originally denied changing the tires, but when I said I'd taken a picture of the van before buying it, and that the photo showed a different brand of tire, he then explained that they had had to take off the old junk tires (which had more than half the tread remaining), since they were delaminating and were unsafe (I asked him how the tires would have passed their rigorous 150-point safety inspection if they were ready to explode.). I demanded they put the tires back, and he said they'd already thrown them out. So, I demanded tires that wouldn't have to be replaced in a week, and they eventually found me four used tires that they moved over from some other vehicle. But they also moved over the other vehicle's rims, so for weeks we drove around with hubcaps with a different vehicle logo on them, as it was all that would fit on the rims. Fought with them for four months, and eventually they replaced the wheels with GM wheels, and installed GM hubcaps (they'd offered several times to "sell" me some GM wheels and the hubcaps ($80 each for just the hubcaps).

I started nagging Hoki about the remote door locks, and he said he had ordered them but they were out of stock. It was probably four months later that he told me that the van wasn't equipped for remote doors. The door locks were electric, but it didn't have the receiver that is needed to receive the signal from the door remotes. I argued that we wouldn't have bought the van if he hadn't told us we could have remote doors, as I think it's a real safety feature. I told him to install the receiver, and I'd pay for the remotes. At this point he stopped returning my calls.

For the next four months I called my salesman (he had been promoted to sales manager) every couple of days, and wrote him three letters outlining several issues with the van, and even dropped by the showroom a couple of times to try to talk to him. He didn't return one of my calls or letters, and refused to see me. So, I phoned and asked for the name of the General Manager, and was told on three different occasions by three different people that the name of the General Manager isn't available to customers; all correspondence has to be sent to Sales Manager. I sent the letter a couple more times, then gave up.

My advice? Stay away from Eagle Ridge Pontiac. They'll return your calls until the cheque clears. After that, customer service doesn't exist, and promises evaporate, in my experience.

Incidentally, I've since noticed that they are repeat offenders, and have received repeated judgements against them from the Advertising Standards Council Canada for false and misleading advertising, bait and switch, etc.

Kick myself for not checking their reputation first.
