CITI Financials - PSC Mid-Atlantic Group
Award Claim Notification with fake check for $3, 995.50

A friend of mine received a letter purporting to be from CITI Financials in Halifax, Nova Scotia with the subject line, "Award Claim Notirication." The letter claimed she was the winner of the North American Prize Pool on July 24, 2008, to ticket number 041-2217-638, with a sum of $75, 810.00 payable. The letter was signed by Anna McBride, Promotions Manager.

A check - appears to be bogus - for $3, 995 was enclosed from PSC Mid-Atlantic Group in Houston, supposedly drawn on the First State Bank in Houston. The bank routing number does not correspond to any bank, and is not the correct number of digits. The check number on the check did not match the check number on the bottom line of digits. The watermark was a nice touch.

The letter asked my friend to contact claims agent Tom Davies at phone number 1-647-836-9134 to claim her winnings. My husband contacted the number, which corresponds to a cell phone in Toronto, and the person who answered hung up on him after asking who he was (he said he was calling on behalf of a friend who received a letter from him).
