PRELIMINARY INTERVIEW OUTLINE
INTRO: My name is %%__ (S.E.E. factor) I am one of the personal managers, all I am doing today is some of the very brief preliminary interviews. The owners and managers will be back a little later on this afternoon and they will be sorting through the applications for the day and just selecting a few individuals to come back in for a more detailed 2nd interview for tomorrow. We are like some of the other nationally known companies in the area that perform the 2 and 3 part interviews. I'm sure you are probably familiar with those. If they do have you come back in we will have you spend a full afternoon with us.

(Now, I like to take control first, by asking them a few qualifying questions. In the field you need to qualify yourself first because you went to them. These people are looking for employment and they came to you, so you can qualify them before qualifying yourself)

(Ask them if the name listed on the application is the name they want to be referred to?)

-Are you currently employed? If so, do you need to give a 2-week notice? (If they answer yes I do like to be very upfront, due to high unemployment and the number of applicant's we really don't have to wait for anybody so they may not call you back but, I will continue with the interview.)

-Looking for full-time start immediately? (If they answer no find out when they are looking to start?)
-Hours: We work Monday thru Friday 10Am 8:30PM

-On a scale of 1-10 what would you rate your people skills? Why?

-What is one thing you think that you do well? Personally or professionally?

-Where did you come across our ad? How much $ are you looking to make weekly or monthly? (If they say more than the $500/$600 let them know we are looking to fill long-term management which is significantly more than the amount mentioned however, entry level averages about $500/$600 can you work with that?

SHORT STORY: The name of our company is "Bond Advertising and Marketing Group" "Smart Circle" The Bond Marketing Group "Safety Compliance Canda"

BMG is doing very well, but because of our past success we now have more work than we know what to do with. That is very good but we are in the client service industry and if you don't service all of your clients properly you can lose them. That is one of the reasons why we are currently looking to offer positions. We are looking to continue to expand throughout Canada.

The ideal candidate that we are looking for is someone that we can take and put at the entry level position, teach them the sales and marketing, and then enter them into our management training program. We have a promotion from within philosophy, so everyone begins at entry level it doesn't matter who you are or where you came from, everyone begins at entry level.

However, unlike many companies we do not have any seniority so he/she that put in the best effort advances the fastest it doesn't really matter how long you have been here.

The average individual moves into the management position within 6 months 1 year but it depends solely on how hard you are willing to work.

(If you have a sharp interview make sure that you promote: if you have a 4-year degree, good communication skills, previous sales/marketing experience, you will probably be able to advance quicker than the average individual but most people move through the management training program within the 6 months 1 year range).

(Qualifying question Do sales and marketing bother you at all?

(On occasion someone will ask if this is door to door sales do not avoid the question. If it is someone that you are not interested in calling back, no big deal. Tell them straight up yes. If it is a sharper interview and you feel that he/she will be turned off by the name door to door don't lie to them but, promote it in a positive manner such as we are an advertising firm in the client service industry and we service all the needs of our clients, that does include business to business and residential areas.

Most clients we represent want personal interaction with their customers and that's one of the main reasons they work with us. We do whatever our clients would like us to do. Then reiterate the question: Do sales and marketing bother you?

PRESENTATION: We are and advertising firm, that is what we do, there is not a company in the world that doesn't make money without some type of sales. We are not looking specifically for people to make a career out of the sales aspects of our business but we have found that it is very difficult to teach something to somebody if you don't have any experience in it yourself so you are required to learn the sales/marketing.

We are looking for people to be managing/running locations and working 1 on 1 with our clients.

We work mainly in sports, entertainment and the hospitality industries and locally some of our clients include: (List some big name clients)

Now when most people think of advertising they think of TV, radio, billboards, and newspapers. That is what's called mass media advertising. That is not us.

We do print promotional advertising, that's where we work face to face with our customers and face to face with our clients. We don't do any of the telemarketing or anything like that, because we figured the best way to actually find out what people think of something is to go and ask them personally.

What we do is actually real neat! Unlike traditional forms of advertising the clients we represent do not pay us upfront for our services. They compensate us by giving us whatever they have. If we are representing a golf course, they give us free rounds of golf, ski resorts give us lift-tickets; restaurants give us food, sports teams give us free game tickets.

Now you (meaning the interview) are probably aware that TV, radio, and billboards are very expensive but just because you spend $2 million on a Super Bowl commercial or $10, 000 on a billboard does that guarantee that your business will profit let alone recover the initial advertising investment? (Most people understand the answer is no)

Mass Media is a great way to get some exposure but most businesses cannot afford to take that kind of risk because it costs so much and there is no guarantee. That's why our advertising method is so effective.

We take whatever they give us (the meals, lift-tickets, rounds of golf, the sporting tickets) and accept that as payment. Since we got it for free we don't have to sell that at a retail price to make a profit for ourselves, so we take their product, package it, and mark the price down about 70-80% off the retail. We will still make a profit because we got it for free. Now with their product we advertise for them, getting their name out to the public, promoting their product, that's what they want us to do, but in the process we market and sell at a discounted rate whatever they gave us and that is how we make money.

Does that make sense?

Does that sound like something that you can get excited about?

(read the person just like in the field if they understand continue, if they have a confused look backtrack with them if they don't understand they won't show up for a 2nd interview. In the field if they don't understand the certificate they won't buy it)

CLOSE: Great! Just a few more questions and we will be finished up.

-Are you looking for $ for school or just more of a career?

(I try to emphasis career but if they answer school find out when they are starting one way to crush the negative of school is to let them know: students that have worked with us in the past just take early morning classes because we work Monday Friday 10am-8pm. Make it seem like it's not a negativebecause it really isn't.) (If they have classes currently you have to let them know we work Monday Friday 10am-8pm)

-Double check their phone # and their cell # if they listed it (read it back to them)
-Which one do you want to be reached at?

The owners and managers will be back later on today. They will be sorting through the applicants for the day and selecting a few (FUJI) individuals to come back for a secondary interview for tomorrow. They will be calling the selected few tonight between 5.00pm and 7.00pm. Interviews with our company are very neat (positively promote) we allow you to spend a full day. It starts at 11:15am and it goes until 8:30pm. It is a full day interview. The reason why we do that is for your benefit.

1st off, want you to shadow an account manager for a full day so that you understand exactly what we would expect you to do if they offered you a position. They will show you everything to do with the entry level sales, marketing and distribution.

2nd: we want you to spend a full day so that we can get to know you more personally. We also want to answer all of your questions, concerns, anything you would like to know about our company. If we're on the same page from the beginning, we get a lot more accomplished, for your protection there is no unbroken promises because you know exactly where we are headed from the beginning and honestly, that's how we keep our turnover ratio down because we find out if your capable of the position before we waste your time and ours.

If they were to select you to come back for a secondary interview for tomorrow (or whatever day) would you be available for the full afternoon?

(If they answer: no, either they aren't interested or they have a previous commitment find out which it is)

(If they answer: yes) Great!

-Would you prefer to interact or work alone? (Choose 1)

-What are a few things that you like to do during your spare time?

The interview was brief, I know, but if they call you back, we will have you spend a full day. I have (1) final question: Why should we call you back?

(STAND-UP AND SHAKE THEIR HAND. BE PROFESSIONAL. MAKE THEM FEEL IMPORTANT. REMEMBER THE GOAL IS TO IMPRESS THEM SO MUCH THAT WHEN YOU CALL THEM FOR A 2ND INTERVIEW THEY WANT TO COME BACK) THANKS SO MUCH FOR COMING IN. HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Does it mention anywhere that you'll be going Door to Door and selling on commission? That's what you'll do from Monday to Saturday. Save the bus and gas money and wait for a real company.
