I received a letter yesterday in the mail with a check stating I also had won $47, 000 (FOURTY SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS) as they wrote it, appearently to get my attention. Well, they got it. They got my husband's attention as well. The letter stated this was my "Award Notification-Final Notice" and was dated November 4, 2007. It stated there was a drawing held on Sept 15, 2007 in which my ticket number 516-236-195 had been drawn and would be deemed null and void if not claimed before 25th of Nov. 2007. It stated there was a check enclosed for $4850.00 in order to facilitate the payment of international taxes and insurance fees. The check was actually for $4995.00. It said to deposit immediately and call "my" claims agent at 780-885-5038, which there was NO answer. The letter said to tell no one and keep this confidential until the claim has been processed. I just didn't get a good feeling about any of this. I got online to find many people had gotten the same letter, and the same check. Exactly the same check. Same routing number, account number and check number for the same amount. I don't know if Publisher's Clearinghouse, Readers Digest or CHASE bank really had something to do with this scam or not, but if they didn't and would like to stay reputable surely they will help find the people responsible and try to help the people who did deposit the check and are now realizing their mistake. I would have done the same thing if it weren't for google and the reports of good people before me. Thank you to those who reported it and I hope everything works out for the better for you.
