I too got one of these letters as apparently many have and I definately will not be depositing this check.
My condolences to anyone who was duped by these jerks and this realistic looking prize. My first hint this may not be on the level was that I do not own a bank credit card or merchant credit card which, according to this letter, is how I won this prize in the first place.
I, as many of you have, analyzed this check and it does appear to be a real check. I guess they get you in the back by cancelling it from what people have written.
They apparently go to many different banks to get money orders (the one I got is not a corporate check). It is payable to me and below this is a line saying "Purchaser: M L Inc. My check was issued by SunTrust Bank on December 18, 2006 which was accompanied by a letter dated December 21, 2006.
It is sort of funny too because I have been getting calls from a number in Nove Scotia which I have ignored thinking it was a telemarketer.
I'm glad this site was here and I hope that some news or law enforcement agency is able to put a stop to these people.
