Tried to charge me $1500 for a laptop repair covered under warranty

On October 2nd 2009, I walked into Mac Station in Burnaby, BC with my 15.4" Macbook pro. I already knew what was wrong with my laptop, and had confirmed the issue with Apple support who told me that the repair would be free. I explained the issue to the technician at Mac Station, who then told me that it would "likely" be covered under Apple warranty and I should expect to get my laptop back in about 7 days. 4 or 5 days later I received a call from a technician at Mac Station. He told me my laptop had a different issue and that it would NOT be covered under warranty. He quoted me approximately $1500 to do the repair. I declined and picked up my laptop.

After again confining the issue with Apple, I took my computer into the Apple store in downtown Vancouver. They confirmed that my issue was part of the warranty recall and that it would be repaired for free.
