Japan Camera (Scarborough Town Center)
Lousy customer service and shady sales people!

Do not buy a camera from these people, EVER!

On October 6, 2006 I purchased a digital camera from Japan Camera in Scarborough Town Centre. Three weeks later the camera did not work and I took it in to exchange it.

When I produced the receipt I was surprised to find "All sales final, no refunds or exchanges" on the cash register receipt. I did not see this and was not informed of it when buying the camera because my visa receipt was stapled on top of the register receipt (sneakily done by the salesperson)

They did take the camera and send it to the manufacturer. This was Nov 1/06 (I have the repair order) After calling them for the past month and hearing different stories from each person I talked to I went into the store December 2/06 and talked to the salesperson that sold me the camera.

The salesperson told me that they do not offer returns or exchanges on any of their products and that he did not dupe me. (I say he did) He also informs me that the camera maker (Ricoh) claims that something is wrong with the inside of the camera (from it being dropped) and that I will have to deal with them myself.

So I get the number for the repair place and talk to the technician, he is very nice and helpful. He tells me that the store didn't send the camera to be repaired until November 14th... that's two whole weeks after I dropped the camera off. Incidentally I had phone japan camera on the 10th and they lied to me and said it was still not back from repair yet.

So the repair tech tells me he has to send the camera to the States to Ricoh, and that it may take a couple weeks.

December 23rd 2006 the repair tech calls me and gives me the UPS tracking number of the camera and says it is fixed but on it's way back to Canada... not in time for Christmas though!

So basically I bought a camera that broke after three weeks, the store I bought it from (which supposedly specializes in cameras) couldn't help me and I missed two very important holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas) without a camera!

I should have just bought from a big box store, but I figured a small camera store would give me better service, and a fair return policy, never again!!

Moral of this story: Do not buy a camera from JAPAN Camera in Scarborough Town Centre (I can't speak for the rest of the locations)
