Laptop ripoff, zero customer service

I have just purchased a Toshiba laptop- Satellite L300D. Was advised by retailer to make backup DVD asap, but when I attempt to do this - part way thru disk 1 I get a "power calibration error, check if DVD is dirty or scratched" and the process stops. Disk two can be successfully made - but after a half dozen attempts, disk one fails fails consistently at the same point, with the same message. No help from company, just take the money for a faulty product and run. CAVEAT EMPTOR avoid Toshiba like swine flu.
