I received a letter and check stating that I had won the 2008 Power Play Stake that was held Feb. 15th. The letter stated that I had won the sum of $150, 000, 00 dollars. A check for $4, 900.00 was enclosed that was to be used for the certification and insurance which had to be paid prior to the delivery of the Lump sum check. The states to contact Rob Williams at 604-825-7701 before depositing the check.
I called Rob Williams and he asked for the claim number listed in the letter and check number of the check that was enclosed. I was then told to go and deposit the check and call him back. I waited 30 minutes and called him back and told him the check was deposited. (It was not).
Rob Williams then told me to go to Walmart and get a moneygram made out to Sue Harker at 1211 E. 39th Ave., Toronto, Canada V3T 4HT for the amount of $2950.00 which would cover the certification. I told him that my bank told me that the check would take 3 days to clear since it was out of state and that I did not have $2950.00 in my account. He then told me that I could just pay the insurance which was $1500.00. I told him that I did not have $1500.00 in my account either until the check cleared. He then hung up.
This is clearly a scam and something should be done about these people.
