I live alone. I turn my water pump and water heater off whenever I am going to be away from home for more than a day. I have replaced all light bulbs with new bulbs that reduce the amount of energy required. I do my laundry in cold water and hang it outdoors to dry. I use my stove a little as possible. I do all of this because my hydro bill reached $611.00 for one month. I just received my latest bill, expecting it to be less... It was over $700.00 for one month. How is that possible when I know I have used less power?? I have looked into solar power but it is expensive to install. Hydro one has now put me in a situation where I have to decide to give up my home or give up hydro. I can heat my home with my wood stove and cook on it as well. I wouldn't have power to run my water pump so I would not have water. Big sarcastic thanks to ontario hydro one.
