Home Depot
Automatically billed for damage insurance when renting tools

We rented a jack-hammer at home depot yesterday. When we rented it the only thing we were told we had bring it back clean or there would be a $25.00 charge. We were never told there was an automatic charge for damage insurance.

Sure enough, when we returned the jacljammer, we paid the bill. As we were walking out of the store we thought to ourselves that the bill was more than we thought it would be. When we checked the bill we noticed an $8.00 charge for damage insurance.

We went back to the rental desk/cashier, we asked about the $8.00 charge and were told the damage insurance was always added and it was up to the customer to decline it. We asked how we should decline it when the customer is never told about the charge and that it was automatically added without informing the customer.

The clerk said he was just doing as he had always been told to do. We were running late and did not have time to see the store manager. We will be going back to get our money back.

We will be our money back.

I am sure our complaint will not change home depot's rental policy so as a result, every customer past, present and future will need to check their bills and do the follow-up

Good luck
