Kia Canada
Kia transmission ripoff

Purchased a 2002 Kia Sedona over 2 years ago. Since that time I have had to fix the air conditioning unit, the wiring melted. Just before the warranty expired I needed to get the motor fixed for the power windows replaced and also the motor for the windshield wipers replaced.

I live in Nanaimo, B.C and for Christmas I planned a trip to Calgary to visit my parents. I was taking my husband my twin girls (11 years old) and my 13 month old baby boy. I had the brakes and rotors replaced just before we left so everything would be safe for my family.

So we leave on the 22nd of Dec and arrive the 24th of Dec just in time for Christmas. We stayed a day in Salmon Arm because of bad weather. After arriving in Calgary we stayed at my parents place and didnt really go anywhere. We were planning to leave back to Nanaimo on the 27th just in time to get the warranty work done on the van. They never had the parts in at the time we took it in so they said as long as we get it back before the new year it will still be covered under warranty.

We are about to leave and notice that there is transmission fluid leaking under the van. So we make an appointment to see whats wrong before we leave to go back home. We take the van in to a Kia dealer in Calgary on the 28th of Dec to find the problem. They tell us that it is a leak from a pump and we have to replace the transmission. I ask if that would be covered under warranty and they said no. The warranty ran out on the van Dec 20th. The van has 75000 kames on it. So the Kia dealer costs too much so I phone a transmission specialist (The Transmission Specialist Ltd. Russ Stoodley, ) who gave me a better price. I took the van to him and he said he would look to see what the problem is. It turns out that the differential pin bore a hole through the casing of the transmission causing the leak.

This is not something that just happens over night. Russ said that this is something that would of taken time to do.

So now I am stuck in Calgary with my family, I need to be back for school, I am a full time student and my husband needs to get back for work. They cant get the part anywhere in North America and need to fly the part in from Japan. It wont be here until the middle of January. My husband now has to fly me and my three kids, one who is only 13 months old, back to Nanaimo and he has to fly to work in northern Alberta.

Now we cant get the van back before the new year so we have to call Kia in Nanaimo and explain the situation, they said ok we will put the paper work through but you need the van back by Feb 5th or you wont be covered for the work that still needs to be done (the motor for the wipers and the window).

So the van is ready to go Jan31, my husband has to quit his job up north fly to Calgary and drive the van back to Nanaimo to get the motors replaced. He gets the van there on time and they still dont have the right parts for the van.
