Taisho Japanese Restaurant - Metrotown
Awful experience

This is the first time my son and I patronized Taisho Japanese Restaurant in Metrotown. Before we sat down the waitress announced the price of the buffet which is C$19.95 inclusive of tips but not the beverage and we so knew it. This announcement is something very unusual compared to other restaurant.

We were given a yellow slip of paper to mark whatever we want and so we did. Both sides of the menu were printed with all kind of dishes for the buffet and we did some order on both sides.

We waited for quite a while and food didn't come so my son asked the waiter to check on it and the dishes came (only part of it) after 15 mins. There were more dishes on the other side of the menu did not arrive at all after half hour. I was annoyed as we were only given 1 half hour to eat as it was stated in the menu. We caught hold of a waitress and query her and she said she will check on it but she never come back and and we didn't get our order as well. We spoke to the Manager Derek and he told us that what we want has already been served but we show him the yellow slip of paper which has marking for the order didn't arrive. To my surprised he told us that what we had order is on the conveyance belt which we are not aware cuz no body told us. Derek said everyone comes in knew about it. How can he expected us to know when the yellow slip of paper stated all the dishes and naturally we thought that we have to wait for the dishes to come. They should print it in the menu that the dishes on the conveyance belt is included in the buffet.

Another awful surprise is when the bill came they include a 10% service charge in it. I am not happy about it as they don't deserve a cent of tip of us. This is the first time I experience restaurant in Vancouver includes a mandatory of 10% service charge. I am very curious to know can they include the tips without our consent. Is this legal? To me this is day light robbery. I would would delighted if you would forward me a department who can help me to seek justice in regard to this issue.

Thank you.

Regards,

Lian
