I received a letter from Golden Financial Trust stating I had won $250, 000.00 in the "CONSUMER PROMOTION DRAW". Enclosed with the letter was a check in the amount of $4, 680.00, which was to be used to pay the "(NON RESIDENTS) CANADIAN TAX applicable to my winnings. The letter also advised me to contact my claims agent, John Roberts for further instructions.
When contacted, Mr. Roberts instructed me to deposit the check, and then call him back. I waited a week to call him back to make sure the check was valid. It was not, and the full amount of the check plus fees were charged back to my accouont. However, I called Mr. Roberts back anyway to see what further instructions would be provided. Mr. Roberts instructed me to obtain a money order in the amount of $3, 970.00 and send it to the "tax agent" identified in the letter, call him once the money gram had been sent, and he would have Fed-Ex deliver my check for $245, 320.00 the next day. Had I done this, I would have been out the $4, 680.00!!
When I tried to contact RBC Centura Bank, I was asked for my phone number, and promptly disconnected each time I called.
My financial situation has been almost desperate for the past year, and I shudder to think that I would have lost everything I worked so hard to keep had I not checked out Golden Financial Trust and its promise of "Big Money Winnings" before paying the "taxes" on my "winnings".
Preying upon people's desperation is the lowest form of deceit imaginable.
