I work in a small police department as a jailer. On Saturday during visitation I overheard an inmate's mother stating that his sister had won 250, 000 on the internet. She had received a letter telling her to cash a check for 4, 500 and pay non-resident taxes by Money-Gram. I researched the name of the company online and discovered the information here on canada-complaints.com. After confirming the company name and alleged employee names in the letter sent to the sister of my inmate, I contacted her and informed her of the scam. Luckily, her bank held on to the check to see if it would clear the account.
You simply have to be very cautious when dealing with anything online. Identity thieves are all over the place. Remember to check things out and don't stop until you get answers to your questions.
