Ripoff Breaking Collections Laws and behaving badly

Dealing with MJR Collections has been a blood boiling experience. About 2 years ago my fiance broke his hand and consequntly was forced to leave his job due to an inability to preform physical labour. After a couple of months with no income his CANADIAN TIRE MASTERCARD was sent to MJR Collections.

We have since been contacted by numerous repersentatives most of which diregard his rights. They REFUSED to allow payment arrangements and insisted that if full payment of $6000. was not made immediatley they would take him to court. After Consistentley REFUSING the payments he was willing to make MJR began making threats to CALL him at his NEW JOB until he was FIRED. They threatened to take our home and "make our lives miserable."

The first 9 months of this was a barrage of phone calls: several times a day, each call consisted of the repersentative yelling, swearing, name calling and making unlawful threats against our property, emloyment and well-being. We are not disrectful people and expect to be spoken to in a appropriate manner. These people started to phone call calling my fiance a idot, moran, liar etc. They continued the call yelling over him, not listening refusing payments (he wanted to make) and then threatening both of us and hanging up.

Unfortunately for MJR, we researched our rights. We have the right to make payments, they do not have the right to intentially cause loss of employment and infact must not call your employment if you tell them to stop. They have not way to take your home nor are they able to assert that they do. They also, and I'm getting to this part in bit, have no right to repersent themselves as lawyers.

Each time they called and declined our rights we shot back with our rights. Each time the reperentative refused his payment we would say "are you refusing our right to make payemts? " this stated angered them and they would refuse to respond. Repersentative after repersentative began to refuse to deal with us until they finally gave in and made payment arrangements. For a year now my fiance has made payments of $200 per month. They continue to call not only him but his family and previous address needlessly several times a month disclosing personal information about this matter. They continue to pressure him to pay off the balance and occasionally deny that payment arrangements had been made at all.

Today after 2 years of this disgusting behaviour my fiance recieved a letter from MJR stating that he has not resolved the matter and that if the balance is not paid in full then legal action will be taken. This letter is written to him in a manner as to repersent a lawyer threatening legal action. The person writing this letter in actuality is an LLB which in my understanding of things is NOT a lawyer but a person who has obtained a bachelor of law. This is not a lawyer. They are again attempting to bend/break the laws governing debt collection and harass my fiance. We are in for another battle with this company. I'm writing this this to let the world now haw this company conducts buisness but also to encorage people to know their rights and stand up forselves appropriatly.
