MONTREAL, Nov. 17 /CNW Telbec/ - A group of striking hotel workers from
Montreal will be demonstrating in Greater Toronto today and tomorrow to
protest their employer's refusal to negotiate a labour contract that meets
industry standards in Quebec's largest city.

Workers at the Four Points Sheraton on Sherbrooke St. in Montreal have
been on strike since August 25. They will demonstrate outside the offices of
the Northampton Group, at 2601 Matheson Boulevard East in Mississauga, where the owner of the Montreal Four Points Sheraton is headquartered, at about 2 pm today.

The demonstrators will deliver a letter addressed to Vinod Patel, the
Northampton Group's president and chief executive officer. It explains that
his Montreal representatives have been negotiating in bad faith and have been
convicted under Quebec labour law of illegally using strikebreakers to staff
the Montreal hotel. It calls on the company to respect Quebec labour laws and sit down in good faith to negotiate a contract that reflects working
conditions at other Montreal hotels.

The 50 employees of the Four Points Sheraton have been without a contract
since June 30. They include employees in reception, chambermaids, maintenance workers, servers, bartenders and cooks. The union is part of a coordinated bargaining group of unions affiliated with the Fdration du Commerce of the Confdration des syndicat nationaux (CSN), which this year is bargaining for 5, 500 workers at 44 Quebec hotels.

The Four Points Sheraton is the only hotel in Montreal currently on strike.

On Tuesday, the hotel workers will picket three of the Northampton
Group's downtown Toronto hotels: at 9:30 am they will picket the Radisson
Admiral Hotel (249 Queen's Quay West); at 10:30 am, the Strathcona Hotel (60 York St.); and, at 11:30 am, the Comfort Hotel Downtown (15 Charles St. East).
