Ripoff-misinformed, lied to, cheated, taken advantage of, etc /Calgary

January of 1997 at past midnight, we were forced to sign a purchase contract to buy a then named Chateau Canmore timeshare. We were co-hearsed into signing before we could read the contract. It was late and were told to return the next day and complete reading the contract, but they had left and had our deposit using my visa number. We were promised bonus weeks as part of the agreement and opportunity to rent our property, as we were green and did not understand what this was all about. After 3 days and nights of trying to contact the (Rob and Gloria people who trapped us into signing) we reguested to cancel the deal as we did not want to buy property but only signed so we could leave at 1 am in the morning. We were told that it was impossible to cancel and our visa card would be charged a min. of $1000.00 and more. When realizing that we were caught, we tried to make the best of this property and try to rent out some of the 6 bonus weeks we were promised. The weeks were never rented out and we were charged exchange fee of $400.00 and nothing in return. When asked why the weeks were never rented out, we were informed that we were to rent them out ourselfs and now all my bonus weeks were gone cause I never used them in time. My maintenance fees have been constantly going UP in price..started at $396.00 bi-yearly to a high cost of $587.00 bi-yearly.

Now at this cost, it is cheaper to travel all inclusive to nearly anywhere in the world. This timeshare will not sell as the name and reputation of the company has weaken its value to a point of not worth owning. The year of 2001, the company double charged me for my yearly fees saying that they were not paid. Luckily I had found the cancelled chegue showing it was paid 9 months before. When the chegue was submitted, I was informed that a mistake was made because of a office move. I have tried to book a week at the resort only to be informed that they are booked up and I'll have to space bank my week or lose it.

We feel that we were cheated and lied to when the timeshare was introduced to us. We were a young couple were did not understand and they took full advantage of us and swindle our card number from us to complete a contract that we could NOT read due to the time of day and opportunity that was given to us. We have tried to locate our bonus weeks only to be refered to another person who claims that they know nothing about the bonus weeks. We are stuck with a $10000.00 timeshare that will NOT bring $1000.00 on the market. Our only recourse now is to let this timeshare go back to the company, by not paying the maintenance fees.

By losing the propery we would be free of the constant increase of maintenance fees and not being able to use the property that we have purchased. We were lied to, cheated of the true value, and most of all, the tactics that were used to get our visa number and have a contract signed at such a late hour. We are truly disgusted at the way this company has treated us and have taken advantage of us. I wish that this company loses all its assets and that its members are refunded what was stole from them.
