Complaint / review / scam report

Recently i recieved a voice mail on my phone for my common law spouse saying he had an over due phone bill with Primus for $137 plus change. I was confused as we did not have Primus we used another service provider. I phoned Primus to inquire about this and was told that my spouse had signed us up for long distance through them in November (at this point it was January). I told them they have a mistake as 1) he would have told me, 2) our current provider has amazing rates and 3) i (who am also on our phone as an owner did not authorize this.

After calling back time and time again (each time becoming more irrate) i finally was able to hear a partial audio tape of "part " of the phone conversation. Oddly each time i would call i was told different things, sometimes the service peole woukld speak to me and provide info and other times i was told "no" or hung up on.

I proceeded to contact my spouse who was working out of town. When i spoke with him he knew nothing of what was going on. He did recall speaking to a telemarketer but says he was told it was a "survey" and was told by the telemarketer to answer "yes" to the questions he was asking. My spouse informed Primus that he was happy with our service provider and questioned the employee for reassurance that there would be no changes to our phone service. The employee said there would be no change and to answer "yes" to the questions as he asked them again.

After everything we never heard another word, never received a bill and knew nothing of the scam brewing. We continued to make regular long distance calls as normal thinking we were covered under our service provider for unlimited long distance. There was nothing until the voice mail on the phone stating our phone bill was going to collections.

My spouse contacted Primus and explained that he did not request their service. The reply he has received so far has been that we can not cancel our services until we pay our bill and even once we do so any long distance calls made for the following 30 days after cancellation will be charged to us by Primus!!! So currently we are stuck with no long distance and a bill we refuse to pay.....
