Please use this as another warning to all who get a phone call from this company. i was at the home show last weekend and filled out a ballot for a free vacation-yes a free vacation everyone wants one of those. yesterday afternoon the phone rings and despite not wanting to answer it i did and was greeted with a man saying that i had won a trip. He proceeded to tell me all the info that i had filled out on the form. I was very skeptical, however he was able, after about an hour of answering my skeptical questions convince me to say ok.
He told me the money was totally refundable! he took my information and after a while sent me to "confirmation or verification" i cant remember the term right now. There a woman proceeded to try to convince me because while waiting for her i was still struggling with the idea. At this time i was on the internet reading reports online about this company and getting fairly scarred of what was happening. She began to confirm my address (for the package that would be sent) and it was then that i said.."i don't like this, I'm not comfortable with this. I am reading reports right now about you and i don't' want to go through with this." This is when the line went dead! they hung up on me! I now have no verification number or booking number.
As a first instinct, i called my Visa company and told them what had happened. I wanted them to stop payments, they said they couldn't because I gave out my information voluntarily (is tricked voluntary??..i don't know but thats another discussion) and there was a charge of $606.58 on my card! I ended up getting my card canceled because i was afraid that they might try to take more money out since the first time i didn't completely verify the purchase.
I called the company back. a very nice woman talked to me and i told her what had happened (this was the head office, not the sales office). She said that they shouldn't have put the payment though because i didn't finish the process and that its a "hold" on my account and that it will fall off in 2-3 days. She also told me to call back on Friday because her system wont show that the purchase has been made until then (this seems fishy to me as well).
So again i call my Visa company back to see what type of charge it is. He tells me that it is a charge not a hold and said they were giving me the run about. This is not surprising me now..rather just making me annoyed.
I know that getting my money back will be a chore, and through reading other reports other's have had this trouble too. What i am worried about is that fact that i canceled my visa..how will they refund my money. i'm sure they will give me the run about on this fact too. If anyone knows what i should do please let me know! I don't have the money for this, i didn't totally agree to this, i have no confirmation number.
The lesson is, listen to your gut and don't fall for "good deals" because they aren't true. I feel incredibly foolish but seeing that others have fallen for it too makes it slightly less painful.
