When I moved to Toronto I needed to store my furniture while I was looking for an apartment. I called up this Public Storage, whose facility manager is Ishan. He was very nice with me and told that they have space available and that I can move in on May 10th, 2003. I told him that I will not be using their space for long and probably I will be vacating the next month itself. He told me that irrespective of when I vacate, I will always have to pay the rent for the whole month in advance and when I move out they will refund for the unused part of the month. I confirmed this on three different occassion (while original enquiry, then while making reservation and then while moving in). He told me that I will be refunded for the unsused part of the month.
I vacated my space on June 14. But I informed on June 17. I thought I will get refund for Jun 18-Jun 30 as I had already paid up for the entire month. Now the same Ishan was rude and told me that I will not get any refund as I was past June 15.
I called up their headquarter and they told me that they do not refund anything whether you vacate before or after June 15. I read the contract and it says the same. Ishan lied to me about the refund rules when I moved in.
To confirm if this was a standard practice I called up the same facility posing as a new customer. Some Kelly answered me and told me the same thing - I will get a refund no matter when I vacate. When I told her that I was a past customer and told about my experence, she got really really mad. When I tried to point out that this seems to be a standard practice, she hung up on me saying she has other customers in her office.
YEAH, OTHER CUSTOMERS TO CHEAT AND RIP OFF!!!
