I am writing this letter to share a very bad experience i had at one of the stores in north york centre. The store's name is Geneva Watches, located at 5150 Yonge Street, North York, ON, M2N 6L8.
Me and my mother were on our way to the North York Public Library, and we passed the store which is located few steps from the library. My mom's watch has not been working properly for a few weeks, it fell behind and was slow for some time. We decided to visit the store and change the watch's battery.
This watch meant a lot to my mom. It was a special gift from my dad to her before thier marriage and she had it for 28 years. When we entered the store, we were approched by a very nice sales man. My mom explained that her watch was slow and it needed battery change.
The salesman took the watch and opened it. He said it needed cleaning as well, and started "cleaning" the watch with his tools. He then put in a new battery.By mom also needed to buy new straps for her watch. He showed us some straps. My mom chose a strap and he changed the straps as well.
He said becuase the watch doesn't have a second hand, he can't tell if its working at the moment. He also said that we can take it, and if we see its not working, we can bring it back and he will fix it. Next he charged us, the total was around $50. We paid and gave us the watches recead and said we have a one year warrenty on the watch as long as we keep the recead.
We left the store.
About 45 minutes later my mom realised that her watch is not working at all. So she took her watch back to the store immediately. She told the salesman that the watch wasn't working at all and she was worried if it was damaged after the harsh cleaning done by him. He told her that he will not take a look at it and he will not fix it. My mom was shocked by the salesman sudden change in treating her.
He was extremely rude and asked her to stay out side of the store. He threated her saying that he will call the security and that she will spend the night in jail! My mom was just shocked. She waited for the security. The security told her that there was nothing she could do. But she could try another store owned by a chinese man, who was well known for being very good at repairing watches, just downstairs in the same mall.
The sales man at the Geneva Watches had told my mom that there were no other watch repairing stores in the area, and that they were the only one. He had also told her that they had a bigger branch in down town, Eaton Centre. The gave wrong information both times. The stores other branch, Geneva Fine Jewellery and Watches, is located at 1800 Sheppard Av, North York, ON. In the end we took the watch downstairs and paid another fee to repair the watch.
I am very upset with the way my mother was treated at the Geneva Watches store. We were lied to and given un true promises. The sales man at the Geneva Watches store disrespected, and threated my mother. I believe this is an extremely bad business. Hopefully through sharing this story, our neighbors and people of our community will be more carefull with the businesses they chose to trust.
