Models, please beware.

I worked for this scam corporation nearly five months ago for a very prestigious client. During this promotion, I arrived on time, provided elite customer service, and was even recognized by the client as "the best promotional model they have ever had". I was even recruited by this particular client's competitors due to my job excellence/professionalism. I am a college graduate and cosmopolitan who is very sensitive to social situations and am very likable.

After my contractual worked was rendered (I have all legally binding contracts in my possession), I began to contact National Event Staffing to secure pay. I emailed the company 8 times and made several phone calls, which were ignored aside for two.

This company wooed and manipulated my interest by stating payment will be rendered within about a month.
Please see below email from NES (this had all of my "booking" info in this email-the initial information for the job related info):

Pay checks are issued and mailed as quickly as possible after we receive your time sheet and have confirmed your hours with the client. If you have questions regarding anything Accounting related after the event please direct them to [email protected]

After I sent multiple correspondence, to my surprise, I received this response:

All of our staff are considered Independent Contractors and as such are not bound by the same labor laws as Employees. This allows us the time we need to ensure all of the numbers are correct for National Event Staffing, our client and our staff before mailing checks. Pay checks are normally mailed between 1 month to 6 months after each event. You are welcome to email [email protected] with any pay check related concerns and we will do our best to solve them. We normally do not look into pay check issues until it has been over 3 months as pay checks are often delayed or may just be in transit via the postal system.

What professional would accept an assignment once they are told it may take 6 months to receive financial compensation for hired work? Not too many, I presume. This could be the reason why this company does not share these truths up-front. In addition, the "main" contact number is a recording. Models are not given the priveledge to speak with an actual person, at all. This company has been reported to the Better Business Bureau for related issues. Please see for yourself.

Actually, I feel rather unprotected to know that this Canadian company is comfortable with profiting from the hard work of unsuspecting, hard working models from the U.S.A. Truly, this is unfair and Bad Business Practice!
