Indirect and direct sexual harassment, violation of human rights and employment standards

After graduating from college, I was quickly employed by Jonathon Karelse, a manager at JW Research. Unfortunately, with my list of complaints shown below, I was unable to press charges because I was under my probationary period, therefore not a permanent employee. Through speaking with my lawyer, he said the cost and fees of filing a law suit wasn't worth the time, money and heartache that I would have to experience. So i found this website and I'm creating a report letting all females know about this man's manipulative and sly ways:

1) Jonathon gave me a spa package, worth $160, at the company's expense (on the company VISA) for extra work put in June 2003, which I believe to be inappropriate because I have only worked for two weeks.

2) He made me work on my spare time on the company website, ensuring I would receive a bonus, however I have not received any bonus. I have completed the company website content 2 months ago in July 2003.

3) He promised me a discount on a new car in August 2003 if I were to continue working under him for a year.

4) He did not allow me to go for lunch until I finished my data entry at around 2 p.m. which I feel is unreasonable. Afterwards, he suggested I bring my own lunch on the days I will be doing data entry because I would not have time to take my lunch break on these days. July 2003.

5) Jonathon interviewed an ex-classmate of mine at my request, after which inappropriate sexual comments were made about her to me, in July 2003.

6) He complained in front of a prospective employee about an area manager's personal hygiene.

7) He made inappropriate comments about other staff at J.W. Research. These were made at all times. The most inappropriate time to mention was his coworker's lack of competence which was made in front of a prospective employee. June August 2003.

8) Jonathon asked me if I was able to keep my personal life separate from my working one, after which he propositioned me. When I declined Jonathon's sexual advances, my workload dramatically increased, and bonuses ceased completely. This was in August, 2003.

9) I have been working extra hours and have not been offered time off in compensation. June August 2003.

10) Throughout my employment at JW Research, he has mentioned names of employees who have made sexual advances towards him which has made me uncomfortable around the mentioned employees. Also, he has made sexual comments about employees at Head office and has discriminated against employees based on their physical appearances. June - August 2003.

11) He complains about the Director of Operations and his incompetence in his job. He has also bragged about his position and how important he is in this company and is clearly confident that he can get away with so much because he is more than just an asset to the organization. He clearly stated, If I were to quit my job, this company will breakdown. My department is so important because we handle all the important issues in this company. We are the only department that is doing its job. June August 2003.

12) After speaking with my predecessor, I learned that the reason she quit was because of Jonathon's non-sexual yet inappropriate comments. August 2003.

13) Jonathon is constantly comparing me to my predecessor which decreases my employee morale and discourages me from trying. I have gotten comments from Judy during the first 2 weeks of my employment, You're not fast enough. I have to call My to come and do your work for you. Judy also makes me feel like I can't do my job and that I'm not capable of managing my own workload. June 2003.

14) He would use personal lunches as department meetings, however no department issues were discussed during these lunches. June August 2003.

15) I told Jonathon that I felt uncomfortable with him paying for my meals and I specifically told him that I was capable of paying for myself. August 2003.

16) He would make inappropriate comments about future plans to fire certain individuals in the company, thus making me feel uncomfortable knowing they will be fired in the future. June August 2003.

17) He told me he was 25 years old and that he lied to the company because the company would not give him the position he has today if he was his real age. Later I found out through other employees that he was 30. I believe the reason he lied was because he assumed that if I knew he was 30, I would not go out with him as a potential boyfriend. June 2003.

18) Jonathon brought me up to Whistler under false pretenses. He lied to me ensuring that other friends would be there however this was not the case. They never intended on showing up. August 2003.

19) After assuring me that our friends were arriving, he manipulating me into drinking alcohol after I had refused. After a few more drinks, he made sexual advances towards me saying I've been waiting for this for so long and meetings will be different in my office from now on, suggesting that sex would take place in the office. Jonathon knew full well that my inhibitions had been weakened under the influence of alcohol and my fragile state of mind. Jonathon was well aware that I was having problems with my ex-boyfriend because earlier in the week, I had discussed with Jonathon in his office how my relationship with my ex-boyfriend was affecting me mentally, thus affecting my work performance. August 2003.

20) The next morning, again he made sexual advances towards me, and not being under the influence of alcohol I rejected his advances. On the ride home, I told him I didn't want anything to do with him anymore. August 2003.

21) From this point on, Jonathon increased my workload by giving me the responsibility of creating client invoices on top of my current workload. As a result, I have to take this extra work home without being compensated. August 2003.

22) Also, Jonathon is authorizing other departments to give me additional workload on top of my current one knowing full well that this is an extra burden on me. August 2003.

So after speaking with a lawyer, he told me there were both indirect and sexual harassment, a violation of human rights and a violation of employment standards. He said my case would have been stronger if I had been a permanent employee with this company. Ladies, beware of this man!!!
