Rogers Hi-Speed Internet Yahoo!
Rogers Yahoo! Unilateral Changes to Internet and Email service caused loss of service

Rogers communications, my Internet Service Provider (ISP) has switched or sold its email and internet service to the American company Yahoo! When I activated my accounts using the Yahoo! software all my internet and email default settings were changed. Now my email service hardly works at all. I cannot access email properly through either Internet Explorer Outlook Express or Macintosh Mail.

I spent a full hour on the phone with a Rogers representative setting up the new system and more than 2 days trying to get it to work.

It wouldn't be so bad if the Yahoo! web mail system was any good, but it is extremely cumbersome to use, requiring too many mouse clicks and it clutters up the computer screen. Outlook Express or Mac Mail are so much better than the Yahoo! system. As a result of this change I am losing many important messages and cannot access them.

The error messages I am now seeing refer me to the Yahoo! web site but my attempts to access Yahoo! help are rejected. I pay a large premium for Rogers Hi-Speed service and have wasted 2 full days dealing with the loss of service. I pay for this service. I am a Rogers.com client, yet neither Rogers nor Yahoo! have provided help or support.

Rogers made these changes unilaterally and have not provided its customers with an alternative to Yahoo! Neither has it enabled its customers to keep their former settings and use email normally.

The Yahoo! web site is a clutter of advertising and fake "news". It offers the same kinds of "entertainment" and "games" options that many other sites offer and in this sense provides nothing that cannot be found elsewhere on the web. However, for those Rogers.com clients that do not want these "features" there is no option to opt-out.

Rogers and Yahoo! have effectively degraded my PC and Macintosh systems, have shut me out of my email accounts and have created an impossibly frustrating situation for me (and presumably, other customers).

Unfortunately, Rogers.com is the only high speed internet provider in my area and I will be forced to switch to a slow telephone-based ISP after more than 5 years as their customer. I have spent thousands of dollars on Rogers and this is what they do to their customers.

Neither Rogers nor Yahoo! have responded to my requests for assistance. It may be that Rogers, at least, is overwhelmed by requests for help. I feel that these companies are arrogant and abusive toward their customers.
