AOL Canada
Ripoff pay for free trial that is never used You are still charged for it!!

I signed up for an AOL "Free" trial during a very busy period in my life. Between the time I signed up for it on the web, and the time I got the CD for the "Free" trial, I decided I would get high speed internet instead. I NEVER used the "Free" trial!

AOL Canada started charging my Visa on September 11th. I didn't notice the charge. On Oct 11th they charged me again. I saw it this time on my Visa bill, and called on Oct 30th to tell them about what I thought was a mistaken charge (I had totally forgotten about the trial sign up by then, as it was almost 5 months after I had signed up on the web).

They said they would look into it and call me back. They didn't. So I called again on Nov 6th. They said they would call me back. They didn't. So I called back again. Each time I called, no one could help me, and they always said they would call back.By November 20th, I was really mad. I called and demanded to talk to someone.By that time, they had put a 3rd charge on my Visa. I got them to agree to take the 3rd charge off because my first complaint was Oct 30th. Yet, they wouldn't refund the period they had charged me for between Oct 30th and Nov 10th, even though I had called Oct 30th.

This is clearly a rip off in many ways. But the main rip off is that you are charged for a trial even though you NEVER USE IT!!!

So, my advice? Call Corporate and Consumer Affairs Canada, or Yvonne Colbert, or some Consumer Advocate and fight to get these rip off artists to tell people in other than fine print that they will charge your Visa after the 3 month "Free" trial whether you ever log on to their service or not!
