Curious Salon
Banned from salon by asking for what I paid for!

For over the past year I have chosen Curious Hair Salon and Spa in North Hill mall, for the maintenance of my hair. From the first time I walked in there I was quite pleased with the service, and was more then happy to give them business. Their hair dressers were very talented and I never left displeased with my hair. When it came time for my Graduation I didnt think twice as to where I should have my hair done. To make sure I would get my hair dresser I booked the appointment one month in advance, and called two weeks before just to confirm that everything was booked properly. When I went into the salon on Friday May 16th, the day before my grad I was speechless when I was told that nothing had been booked right. I was supposed to be book for a hair dye, a hair cut, gel nails and a pedicure. I only had time for a root touch up and to get my nails done. High school graduation only happens once in a life time and it is thanks to my hair dresser that I even looked presentable. It became a whole different story when my mom went to pay the bill. They wanted to charge me full price for a hair cut when I got a bang trim, and they charged me for a full dye, when I only got a root touch up. We managed to get them to remove the hair cut since it was obvious I didnt have one. But they refused to make any changes on the price of the hair dye.

For weeks we called Curious trying to get a hold of the owner. We finally received the call on Monday June 23rd, over a month had passed since the incident had occurred. I spoke to him for a while, and found him to be the most cocky, arrogant, immature man I have ever come across. Right off the bat he refused to ever apologize for anything that had happened on the day before my Graduation. And also informed me that my opinion didnt matter to him because he had 15 years experience, so he was more intelligent that I ever could be. I asked him if he treated all his customers this way and he said No, I dont treat all my customers this way, only the ones I dont want in my salon, and I dont ever want to see you step foot in my salon again. He also told me that by losing me as a customer his business will not suffer, he will make just as much money without me. I told him that in order to have a successful business he needs to treat his customers with respect, and he disagreed and said that he was running his business in an appropriate manner. When I proceeded to question him about his respect for customers he stated that I didnt scare him and that I could insult him all I wanted, but I simply said I was asking an honest question. When I asked him if he made a lot of money by ripping people off he was completely speechless. He later said that none of this was his fault or his responsibility, everything that went wrong was because of my hair dresser. But how can someone run a business and not be responsible for any of its actions? When I had said to him that I couldnt believe I was being treated like this after being a loyal customer for over a year, he said good for you. Never in my life have I been treated so poorly by someone, especially someone that is supposed to be a professional!

All I was asking for was what I paid for. If I paid for all of my hair to be dyed then all of my hair should be dyed. I wasnt asking for something outrageous like a free hair dye or a store credit, I just wanted what I deserved. But he said that he gave me a deal, and most people have to pay double of what I do. Well I have a tough time believe that someone would pay $220 dollars to dye 2 inches of their hair! With everything that I said to him he kept saying that I could try as hard as I wanted to make him feel bad, but I always said it wasnt my goal to upset him, all I wanted was some respect. At the end of our conversation he informed me that he had put a note on my file banning anyone from making an appointment under my name, also, he told me not to buy any of their products and never to step foot in his salon again. He then said that he hoped that my conversation with him helped me feel better about being ripped off and if it didnt then I was to go out and do something that did make me feel better and move on with my life.

When I got off the phone crying my dad phoned Michael Rizzuto (the owner) back to talk to him about how he had treated me. My dad said that he would like to meet with him face to face and he refused to do so without the police present. He also dared my father to sue him or call the Better Business Bureau, because as far as he was concerned one person couldnt do anything.

I am still dumbfounded that a professional business owner could be this rude. The entire time I was talking to him, it felt like I was talking to a 14 year old boy! I actually had to ask him if he was the owner because I was so shocked by his behavior. What ever happened to the customer is always right? I have never felt so inferior to someone. My goal is to raise awareness on this issue, and put an end to this mans childish antics. I dont want anyone else to have to suffer from the money loss or the insults. And most of all I want to prove that one person can make a difference.
