Dear everyone,
I wish to post this ad to warn as many people as possible about a scam alert. 3 days ago, I received a bingo card in my mailbox. Without really thinking, I scratched it and found out I was eligible to win one of the prizes. At the back it asked people to immediately call a toll free number as soon as you find out that you are a winner. I was really excited; yes I've heard of scams and I even make jokes about people that get scammed, however it happens to even the smartest and the best of us.
When I called, a lady put me on hold and was quite rude to me. She asked me where I lived and I naively gave my information to her. She said that I did indeed win a prize, however I needed to watch a presentation about a vacuum before I could collect it. Needless to say that I was super excited. I agreed and she said she'd send someone over at my house late in the evening.
My husband and I had an argument about that 'vacuum person' coming over. He was absolutely sure that I didnt win anything.By the way, I got a 'box' on the card and a 'box' would make you eligible to win $5000 cash. That's what it said. And that's what I thought I would get.
Anyways, the person came over and my husband clearly told him he only had 20 minutes to finish the presentation; we had to leave for a dinner party. He pretended he was interested in finishing as quickly as possible and went through the vacuum blablabla until I had to stop him and let him know I really had to leave. So here's what happened: he calls his manager from my phone and asks the manager to talk to me. The manager starts asking me why I have to leave in a very aggressive/ rude way. I said I had other plans and all I wanted was to get my prize and leave for the party. I told him I was NOT interested in buying the $2900 vacuum; he got angry and started commenting about how the student told him I have a dog and how my dusty house needs a vacuum. My husband got angry, we hung up, kicked the guy out and were about to call the cops. I'm about to go to bed and I decide to read about this company in calgary. The only thing I found were complaints and an article written by on of the former employees. He describes exactly how they are trained to come to your house, get you into buying this vacuum (a new product- the product is not so new and I looked that up) and how the call to the manager aims at pressuring you into a sale.
Needless to say that I feel ashamed for believing them and wasting my time. I would hate seeing people in this situation. It's just unfair and deceitful. I'm trying to post this message everywhere so please help me by passing the message on. Lots of old people get scammed like this because they make you believe it 'purifies' the aire and helps you with asthma. Again, that's all BS but you want to prevent people from making the mistake of buying it for $2900.
