I just had two salesmen from RTS Investments come to my home... 45 minutes late to shampoo my carpets... I was expecting a professional company to come and clean my carpet for free with no obligation to buy anything. Like they said on the phone.
I was hoping the catch to the deal was for them to make a good impression and be asked if I wanted to pay for the rest of the house to be done. I was willing to check it out.
1st red flag:
The two men were shady in appearance but because my husband was sleeping upstairs I let them in... the fist guy gave me his sales pitch and informed me that word of mouth is their only way of advertising and left the other guy to finish the demonstration and clean my carpets.
2rd red flag:
The second guy appeared to be on some kind of street drugs and was making me very nervous. He was looking all around scoping things out and making comments on my nice furniture. As he was assembling the vacuum he stopped mid sentence from his sales pitch and said wow is your couch leather? he appologized for the way he was acting and blamed it on a long hard day of work. With red and fully dilated eyes... I don't think so.
He then asked me if I lived alone. I told him about my kids and husband. I told him they were sleeping and then he made a point of asking me if my husband was also upstairs sleeping. Real shady to say the least.
I decided this was at best a sleezy salespitch and I had no intentions of turning my back for one second with these strangers in my home.
I informed the guy I was not interested anymore and wanted him to leave. He told me he had no way of getting a hold of the driver. But when the driver pulled up he was talking on his cell so I told him to call him on his cell.
He then told me he wasn't allowed to ever call him on his cell. Nice. Poor guy just started a week ago with this company. He told me if I cancel he will get fired. I said if he would get fired because I changed my mind then he obviously needed to find another job. He then said he was just joking about getting fired. He said he really didn't want to have to sit outside in the cold for several hours waiting for his driver to return.
I got on the phone and called back the number on my call display.
The man that answered was very rude to me and told me there was nothing he could do because the driver was already 40 minutes away. He actually only left 15 minutes ago. I suggested he call a cab for him. The driver ended up coming back for him within 15 minutes.
3rd red flag (when I knew I did the right thing)
The driver came to my door totally reeking of hard booze. Yes this was the driver! Nice professional people here!
I was so happy in the end to get these riffrats out of my house.
The whole time I was polite yet straight forward. The driver seemed annoyed with the new guy and told him to shut his mouth as he was trying to take over and change my mind.
I gave him 5 minutes to talk and he got the point and left. The driver was kind about my decision. Im sure the booze had something to do with it.
I am installing a home security alarm in my home IMMEDIATELY to say the least. Never again will I allow strangers into my home without doing a little research on their company first.
