I too have received a letter stating that I won $38, 000 from some online contesst that I do not recall entering. Along with the letter was what seemed to be a live check for $3800.00 I called the number that was given to find out what this was all about. I man with a very strong accent answered and explained to me that I won $38, 000 dollars and I was to deposit this check into my account and call back when the funds were available to find out where to go to pay the insurance so I could receive the rest of my winnings.
I was very angered by this and when I asked the mans name he simply said Kris and then proceeded to tell me he had someone on the other line and hung up the phone (wich, by the way, was a mobile). My intention now is to hurt these people, badly. I am going to the bank today to find out whatever I can about this check and how these people got my name. I am also going to find out what authorities need to know about this so these people can be caught.
If anyone else has been caught in this scam please let me know any information you have. I am going see this to the end and the more knowledge I have the easier it will be.
