I'm confused and feeling like an idiot. I'm usually smarter than this. I thought I'd located the perfect resource. I bought everything they told me in the sales pitch... I even finagled my poor spouse into a meeting in their gorgeous, downtown window offices and we convinced ourselves this was the best thing to do given Vancouver's horrible job climate. Maybe it's because I have too much faith in humans, and why would scammers pose as EMPLOYMENT agents?? Don't they all sell crack at the street corner to school children?? Anyway, I was desperate and willing to try anything. What infuriated me reading these were all of the scripted lines that took me for a ride and inflated my head. "You're one of the select few..." etc. etc. I was totally horrified with the amount of money upfront - I am so ashamed - almost $5000 on my credit card that I had to produce THEN and THERE. Forget about paying off my student loans, much less buying groceries. I have to admit, the career counsellor I like and thought helpful and friendly, but in the back of my head the whole time was "I can do this..I've done this on my own..." Having a coach did help my self esteem wrt careers, but not $5000 worth, and after reading all of these reports, seems like that's all it will do. Any agency worth their salt - ESPECIALLY those working with people who are vulnerable and out of work - will allow people to pay in increments and have at least partial refunds available. They got it right, though..I mean, how can a layperson go against carefully designed legal forms, scripted responses and bureaucratic strategy around disgruntled clients??? So now what do I do? Seems like I can't get money back without tons of time and energy into fighting them. Do I continue and hope for the best? Anyone interested in discussing this please reply to this report.
