We were looking for new rims and tires for our car. I was dealing with this company for many years buying tire set after tire set. So why not, we went and decided to buy the tires & rims, plus they had financing available so you can pay it within 3 months no interest.
Well, we choose our tires and rims and notice when talking to John Walker that he mentions that we can choose *any* rim we like in the book he gave us. I should have noticed then that it's not possible to choose a rim without first making sure it fits right to the car as you have to take account, the offset, the lug pattern, etc.
So we go along with it. We find the ones we want, from an australian company and were told it will take about 7 days or so to get it. We put a substantial deposit on our credit card (1/2 of the value) and wait. We call in 7 days, they claim they don't have the rim. I call almost every other day, because John says to call him back. It's been now over 5 weeks and nothing.
So one day, I call him and he says : yeah, they have arrived. But when i book the appointment, it takes a few more days, claiming they need special mounting stuff kit for the car. Now I go to install it. I pay him the rest and pick up the keys to take the car home. To my shock, the rim and tire are wrong, totally wrong. It was made by some brazilian company and looked like four 2x4 strips in a star pattern. The tire, same brand, were not the ones we wanted (he claimed it was an upgrade, later I found out the price of those tires are the same for both). I told him that it's the wrong set, he doesn't believe me, thinks I'm bluffing. Told him to remove it and he said he can't deal with it until next day.
We come back the next day, remove the rims, and to my shock the guy tries to pull a fast one. Claims we wanted that rim and the one we ordered. The one we ordered is discontinued (not true, according to the australian rep I talked to) and then said that the tire price is huge compared to what I have on my car now. I mean like 300$ difference in price. Maybe he realized that he underquoted me the rim set and needs to make it up by getting me something that I might take without much fight.
Well, we decided to give them another chance. We chose another set. They were 60$ more expensive per rim, but were of better quality. We didn't pay him that yet, we wanted to wait until they come in and after the install. Now, we waited another good month and continous calls to John, and nothing came up. Claimed, tomorrow or in a week.
I decided to call the 'owner' of wheel and tire zone, Andrew Kantor. He wasn't helpful and lied that the store in Mississauga is not under his control. But guess where the money, ordering and authorization to do credits come from:ir head office and from Andrew Kantor (John was talking to Andrew about stuff all the time we were waiting for answers). It was just a big lie to cover up for something. John called me and got very upset about it. Saying that if I have a problem talk to him, not his Cousin(or whatever).
So, we decided to contact our credit card bank and reversed the charges. Suprisingly, they credited back us the full amount withing a month of the complaint. The thing I'm confused is why this all happened. We meant no harm. Imagine that we drove with winter tires until end of June! Until we got our refund. Then we proceeded to buy rims from another company. Great service. Took 4 days to get it. They even called that the tires had to be imported from the States and it will take an extra day. They had it courrier it fast because normally it takes a week or so.
I also found out that the rims are still selling that wheel and tire zone said were discontinued. I have so many unanswered question for Andrew Kantor. I was a loyal customer and was totally screwed up. I won't be doing business with them EVER. They use to be reputable, but now they're scum. Imagine that I refered at least a dozen people to his place. Guess what I won't be doing in the near future.
Andrew and John, if you ever read this, tell me why were we treated that way? I never was angry, yelled or disrepected either of you, all I wanted is answers. And guess what, I refered people to the place I bought my rims and tires and they are happy customers. Word of mouth counts! Don't rest on your old laurels.
